The project of the Jewish space in Lodz between two world wars
The project promotes the examination of the Jewish urban space in Lodz, Poland, between the two world wars.
Unlike Warsaw, which suffered great destruction in World War II, archival materials dealing with the lives of the Jewish residents of the industrial city of Lodz remained almost intact. The material was scanned on the website of the National Archives in the Lodz branch and in other archives and libraries. The material contains a whole world, and within it spatial information; Address and phone book of residents and businesses in Lodz in 1939, lists of tax payers for the Jewish community between 1939-1917 and the list of voters for the leadership of the Jewish community in 1924.
The use of digital tools enables the transfer of the lists to tables for statistical research and, above all, the mapping of the addresses of the Jewish residents of Lodz during the interwar period, and in fact, the revitalization of the Jewish space in Lodz during the interwar period.
The project is coordinated by architect Ruth Kaplan with the support of Dr. Sinai Rossink and Dror Elovitz.
