Examples of projects in progress
1] Fantastic Art
The project deals with the study of the genre with a large presence on the Internet and various industries, but isn’t beeing researched in the discipline of art history and the art industry (museums, galleries, etc.). The genre is associated with fantasy culture and admiration and is classified as a popular culture. In the first phase – the project aims to create a large corpus of images through their collection from the Internet. Next we strive to perform automatic detection of visual ontology that includes connections to past art. All this with the help of machine learning tools. So far, in the early stages of the project, we have started collecting data while studying the different types of sites that exist on the web, and have created an artistic ontology integrated into the semiotic language of fantasy culture, which can examine the iconography of the works. The project invites to think about the individual work as well as the whole genre in an innovative, democratic and bottom-up way. To the project page
2] Individual Pages
Individual printed pages (or boards / sheets / posters) have been created since the beginning of printing, including the Hebrew one. This is a separate category in the history of printing. The pages are distinct in their production, special in their purpose and diverse in their subjects. Although there are some genres that are more present, page themes are just as diverse as the human experience. The pages are about public, community, local and national affairs, people and life events – religious and secular. Since this is a temporary element by definition, many of the individual pages have been lost. It is estimated that about 10,000 such pages have survived, but there is no colection of them and they are cataloged differently in the catalogs of different libraries. Many of them survived in only one copy or several copies.
